God is in Control – A New Book by Joseph R. Mays

February 24, 2009 · 1 Comment

After years of setbacks and negative distractions, I have finally done something I wanted to do for a long time; . :-) My first venture into the publishing arena is called ““. In it you will find poems that will uplift you and caress your soul and let you know that those troubles you’re going through will not last forever. The enemy doesn’t want you to succeed, but with God you WILL succeed.

God is in Control

I hope meets your expectations and helps you in some way. Share it with a friend or co-worker. We all need encouragement from time to time and this resource is the perfect solution. I appreciate any and all support you can give. This will help me get past my current situation so I can provide a better life for my daughter Ashleigh. Help me so I can help many others.

Thank you and may God bless each and every one of my readers and followers.

Sincerely,

Joseph R. Mays

God’s Voice Mail

February 23, 2009 · 1 Comment

Most of us have now learned to live with voice mail as a necessary part of our lives. Have you ever wondered what it would be like if God decided to install voice mail? Imagine praying and hearing the following:

Thank you for calling Heaven

For English press 1
Para un Espanol mecar el dos
For all other languages press 3

Please select  one of the following options:

Press 1 for request
Press 2 for thanksgiving
Press 3 for complaints
Press 4 for all others

I’m sorry, all of our Angels and Saints are busy helping other sinners right now.
However, your prayer is very important to us and we will answer it in the order it was received.

Please stay on the line.

If you would like to speak to:
God, press 1
Jesus, press 2
To the Holy Spirit, press 3

To find a loved one that has been assigned to Heaven press 4, then enter the social security number followed by the # sign. If you receive a negative response, please hang up and dial 666.

For reservations to heaven, please enter John: followed by the numbers 3:16.

For answers to nagging questions about dinosaurs, life and other planets, please wait until you arrive in heaven for specifics.

Our computer shows that you have already prayed for today, please hang up and call again tomorrow.

The office is now closed for the weekend to observe a religious holiday.

If you are calling after hours and need emergency assistance, please contact your local pastor.

Thank you and have a heavenly day.

Good-bye.

Let Us Tickle Your Funny Bone: New Sick Leave Policy

February 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

New Sick Leave Policy

Sickness: NO EXCUSES! We will no longer accept your doctor’s statement as proof, as we believe, if you are able to go to the doctor, YOU ARE ABLE TO COME TO WORK!

Leave of Absence: (for an operation): We are longer allowing this practice. We wish to discourage any thought you may have about needing an operation. We believe that as long as you are employed here, you will need ALL the parts you have and should not consider having anything removed. We hired you as you are and to have anything removed would be LESS than we bargained for!!

Lost Time: Too much time is being spent in the restroom. In future, we will follow the practice of going to the restroom in alphabetical order. For instance, names beginning with “A” will go from 8 a.m. to 8:05 a.m., “B” will go from 8:05 a.m. to 8:10 a.m. and so on. If you are unable to go at your time, it will be necessary to wait until the time comes again!

Death (other than your own): This is no EXCUSE!! There is nothing you do for them now, we are sure that someone in a lesser position can attend to the arrangements. However if the funeral can be held in the late afternoon, we will be glad to let you off one hour early, provided that your share of work is ahead enough to keep the job going during your absence.

Death (Your Own): Only ONCE will this be accepted as an excuse, but we would like a two week notice as we feel it it YOUR duty to train someone else on your job!!

We hope you were able to laugh as you read this. We’ll find more items like this for you to enjoy in the near future.

Yours in things that are funny,

Joseph R. Mays

I Shall Not Pass This Way Again

February 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Through this toilsome world,

Alas once and only once shall I pass.

If a kindness I may show,

If a good deed I may do,

to a suffering fellow man,

Let me do it while I can.

For it is plain,

I shall not pass this way again.

Look Familiar? And the votes are in…… Obama wins!!!

November 5, 2008 · 1 Comment

At approximately 11:00pm Eastern time an emotional, historical and motivational message was given. Barack Obama has taken California’s and Virginia’s electoral votes and has become the 44th President of the United States!!!!

From struggle and strife to stars and stripes and the highest position in the nation; The President of the United States of America. The nation’s FIRST African American President of the United States of America. Martin Luther King and Thurgood Marshall must be very proud of what they see from heaven. A wonderful day for the Obama family, the country and the entire world. And I played a part by making my voice heard with my vote. Congratulations to all voters that did the same no matter what candidate you chose.

My hats off to John McCain for his gracious concession speech. He was a true gentleman and urged his supporters to support Barack Obama. He was very moving and I have a lot of respect for him regardless of his ties to George Bush. However, it is time for change and we will get it now.

Thanks to God who made it all possible.

I am Joseph R. Mays and I approved this message.

PS. Please celebrate this day in history and do it responsibly. Respect the other side’s vote/choice. Everyone is entitled to their opinion based upon their own set of values. Tell/explain to your children what has happened. Tell them they can do anything if they put their mind to it. I leave you with the first and last first of my poem called “Dreaming”.

Follow your dreams,
no matter how far-fetched or crazy it seems.

And in the end, when it’s all through,
You wake up (Barack Obama) and find your dream (President of the United States) came true.

National Novel Writers Month – Novel Challenge – Chapter 1

November 3, 2008 · 1 Comment

The proud father smiled as he watched his daughter sleeping peacefully on the bed. Her breathing was calming and rhythmic and put him at ease. He sighed as he thought about all the toils and trials he had been through to get to this point. God had been good to him and blessed him with this beautiful child and cleared out all the thorns in the thicket of life.

He left her room and went to the refridgerator to get something to drink. The smell of the KFC chicken wafted through the air and made his stomach growl. He took out a couple of pieces of chicken and a biscuit and sat down and put in a DVD movie. He ate the chicken and watched the movie. He had watched the movie (War of Worlds with Tom Cruise) many times, but he never tired of seeing the amazing effects in the movie. After the movie was over, he proceeded to lay down and get some sleep.

He awoke during the night to a loud banging outside his window. A street light fixture had fallen into the street from the strong winds howling outside. He returned to bed and went back to sleep. He dreamed about the day he would get a better house for his daughter and her first day of school. A smile flashed across his face as he dreamed and morning came several hours later.

He woke up in the morning with a slight headache, but otherwise rested. He took some Aleve to ease the pain of the headache. He prepared breakfast and fed himself and his daughter. She laughed as she drank her juice. Her calls for “daddy” were met with a warm smile from her father. He had a proud smile on his face and told her what a pretty girl she was. “You are a beautiful girl”. “You are such a pretty girl”. She smiled back with a look that would melt any heart. Even the Grinch would have to give in.

He cleaned up the dishes and put them away and proceeded to clean the house. He took a look at what had to be done for the day wrote the tasks down on paper. He put the clothes in the washing machine and dried the ones that had already been washed. He folded the clothes that were in the dryer and put them away.

The phone rang loudly in the back room. It was a customer calling about an order. “May I help you?”, he replied. A female responded “Yes, I’d like to order a catalog.” “Where can I send this catalog, mam?” She proceeded to tell him her address and he wrotee down her name and placed the order. He thanked her for calling and hung up.

He left out to go to the Post Office to mail out a catalog to the customer. The fresh air felt good on his face and invigorated his senses. He felt refreshed and rejuvenated. The air was cool and crisp. The sun was high in the afternoon sky. It was

Support BeSomeone.org – Help Give Children an Alternative to the Streets

August 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

In keeping with my promise to help people, I am delivering to you another story worth reading about. I encourage you to follow your heart after reading and do what you can to help. The way we all make it in life is to form strategic alliances and support each other wherever we can.

I had a chance encounter yesterday that brought this story to light. I will have more on the encounter later, but a substory in that encounter is the subject of this blog entry. Mr. Orrin Hudson, a renown speaker, is what I am talking to you about now. He created a non-profit organization called Be Someone (besomeone.org). He gives children an alternative to the streets, gangs and violence. He teaches them how to play chess. Chess, if you’re not familiar with the game, is all about strategy and moves. He shows them how to play the game and tells them about the consequences of choosing the street as their “game”.

We need organizations like this all around the country and all around the world. Some are fully funded and some are struggling with funding to keep them running. The individuals that run these organizations have a passion for their business and they believe in what they are doing. They also know that their organization is a positive contribution to the community. So let’s pitch in and help out organizations like Be Someone so they can continue to provide desperately needed services in our cities in America. You can donate or buy his book on his website. Either way you’re helping his organization provide services to children in Atlanta.

Thank you.

Yours in community and success,

Joseph R. Mays
