February 17, 2009 – No DTV Transition – It Has Been Delayed until June 12, 2009

February 18, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Today was to be the day that digital television was to make it’s mandatory debut all across the nation. However, President Barack Obama scored another victory by requesting the transition be delayed until June 12, 2009. Millions of people would have been affected by this transition. Many homes are unprepared as they don’t have the money to buy the digital converters to interpret the digital signal into a usable signal for analog television sets. The delay allows people time to get the converters and be ready when the transition takes place on June 12, 2009.

Let Us Tickle Your Funny Bone: New Sick Leave Policy

February 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

New Sick Leave Policy

Sickness: NO EXCUSES! We will no longer accept your doctor’s statement as proof, as we believe, if you are able to go to the doctor, YOU ARE ABLE TO COME TO WORK!

Leave of Absence: (for an operation): We are longer allowing this practice. We wish to discourage any thought you may have about needing an operation. We believe that as long as you are employed here, you will need ALL the parts you have and should not consider having anything removed. We hired you as you are and to have anything removed would be LESS than we bargained for!!

Lost Time: Too much time is being spent in the restroom. In future, we will follow the practice of going to the restroom in alphabetical order. For instance, names beginning with “A” will go from 8 a.m. to 8:05 a.m., “B” will go from 8:05 a.m. to 8:10 a.m. and so on. If you are unable to go at your time, it will be necessary to wait until the time comes again!

Death (other than your own): This is no EXCUSE!! There is nothing you do for them now, we are sure that someone in a lesser position can attend to the arrangements. However if the funeral can be held in the late afternoon, we will be glad to let you off one hour early, provided that your share of work is ahead enough to keep the job going during your absence.

Death (Your Own): Only ONCE will this be accepted as an excuse, but we would like a two week notice as we feel it it YOUR duty to train someone else on your job!!

We hope you were able to laugh as you read this. We’ll find more items like this for you to enjoy in the near future.

Yours in things that are funny,

Joseph R. Mays

Important News Regarding the Financial Crisis

February 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Notice:

Due to the present economic uncertainties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Just a little humor to keep you going. The message was from a paper that was posted in a cubicle at a previous job. I collect things like this to keep people (and myself) encouraged and give them something to laugh at to get through the bad times. We’ll all make it through. God will see to that.

Yours in humor and good laughter,

Joseph R. Mays

The Pursuit of Happyness – A Must-See Film

February 12, 2009 · 3 Comments

I finally saw yesterday and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I recommend this movie to everyone with a dream and a vision. Anyone with an entrepreneurial spirit that never gives up. Anyone burdened with stress and wants a positive outlet. Anyone that wants that extra spark to get them through the day.

The film portrays some of the downsides of life and situations, but it also beautifully portrays the good side too. There are thousands of families in situations just like the main character (). Wandering from shelter to shelter wondering where they will lay their head next.

A story was run on our local news here in Washington, DC just this week about how the number of homeless kids in school has increased. A sobering statistic. Times have gotten even tougher with all the bad economic news out there.

But it is always nice to know that you can pop in a DVD and watch something positive and be inspired by it and know that there is hope around the corner of every dark situation.

Yours in fulfilling your/our dreams, :-) :-) :-) :-)

Kevin Harvick Wins the Budweiser Shootout in a Wild Finish

February 7, 2009 · 1 Comment

The season started under the lights at with the running of the Budweiser Shootout. The woman that sang the National Anthem had a finicky sound system to deal with but the fans made it cool and exciting by singing along with her when the microphone went out temporarily.  Someone fixed it and she was able to go on uninterrupted. It goes to show how cool NASCAR fans are and how we stick together to make the event fun.

Defending Nextel Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson is starting his season off with a quest for something that has NEVER been done.  No one has won the championship four times in a row. He is in the hunt to do just that. Big name drivers like Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. ran neck and neck throughout the race. Dale Jr’s car was loose throughout the race and was responsible for the wreck that dashed his hopes of  winning the Budweiser Shootout.

One of my favorite drivers, Mark Martin, is back for a full schedule this year. I look forward to good things from him. Bill Elliot is reportedly making a comeback as well. Tony Stewart is expanding his team and Richard Petty has a new driver and his major sponsor is McDonald’s.

The race ended on a caution as Kevin Harvick put the pedal to the metal and propelled himself to the front and never looked back as his fellow racers crashed behind him. It was a wild finish at the end.

qualifying for the is tomorrow. The is set to run on February 15, 2009.

Joseph R. Mays

PS. In reply to Karman, the singer was Sister Hazel.

Pittsburgh Steelers Pulled Out Victorious in a Super Bowl XLIII Nailbiter

February 1, 2009 · Leave a Comment

In what was a show of outstanding body control and presence Santonio Holmes put away the game for the with a remarkable catch that will go down as one of the greatest moments in football history. With three defenders around him, Santonio Holmes managed to pull the ball down and maintain control of the ball on the way out into the end zone. Their victory wasn’t without some stirring in their stomach as Kurt Warner attempted to take the down for the score. He was unfortunately made to fumble the ball and the recovered it with five seconds to go. At that point the game was over and the became to celebrate their victory in earnest.

Congratulations to the on their victory in Super Bowl XLIII. They are the ONLY NFL team to win SIX Super Bowls.

Yours in Super Bowl History,

Kudos to Jennifer Hudson for Her Outstanding Rendition of the Star Spangled Banner

February 1, 2009 · 1 Comment

In what was a stellar return to the spotlight, showed what made her a star in the first place. She showed courage and conviction in the face of the tragedy that befell her family. She moved past that and brought joy to me and the rest of the world with her rendition of the National Anthem at the Halftime show in Tampa, Florida today. The and the were the NFL teams that fought their way to Tampa for a chance to win the NFL’s most prestigious prize; the Vince Lombardi Trophy and a Super Bowl Ring.

belted out a soulful rendition that touched everyone. It is definitely a moment to remember for a long time to come.

Yours in warm and wonderful memories for the future,

Joseph R. Mays
